The New Entrepreneurs: Melanie Goldsmith & Emile Bernard

Melanie Goldsmith, 26, a native of London, and Emile Bernard, 27, a renowned chef from Cardiff, met while studying in Wales. Together, they have broadened the horizons of the confectionary industry and reimagined the social drinking scene with their company Smith & Sinclair, an edible cocktail company that focuses on alcohol-infused sweets. Wearing the latest Brooks Brothers Red Fleece collection, Mel and Emile sat with us to talk about how they came up with the idea for Smith & Sinclair.

“We like to push the boundaries as much as we can in regards to what people know as a cocktail or as a confectionery item,” explains Emile, who wore our Tartan Oxford Sport Short with a matching tie. “I look up to a load of chefs and their approach on experimenting and taking risks with new equipment or ingredients that people aren’t really use to.”

Mel adds, “[That’s how] we came up with our array of edible products, [so we could] subvert the idea of drinking in a completely new fashion.”

Dressed in our Tartan Ruffle Shirt and Five-Pocket Corduroys, Mel later tells us that she likes to wear a lot of color so she looks and feels bright. “If I’m in black, you know it was a bad day.”
